In the later year of 1977 this model was being introduced in Geneva Motor Show. Renault is a French manufacturer and its 18 model that was being manufactured in the time span of 1978 and 1993 was basically a family car. It was formed on the basis of “Renault Eve”. The capacity of the actual engine was limited between 1.4 and 1.6 liters. Later on more powerful Turbo and also Douvrin 2.0-liter equipped models were introduced in the later stages of 1980 to draw attention of the car lovers.
This was the first Renault manufactured model that comes with forced induction. It became very popular at that time.
Initially it was available as a saloon with four doors in various trim variations as GTL, TL, GTS and TS. Built-in electronic regulator as well as a new alternator was included in all the models in later years of 1978. Initially it came with 2,068 cc engine which was later on replaced by Turbo models. In case of Turbo models 1,565 cc engines along with five-speed gearbox, dashboard, four-stud alloy wheels, smart interior fittings, rear spoiler and negative offset front suspension are available.
In the year 1982 it saw various changes like negative offset was made standard. Indicator lenses located in the front are changed for clearer view. Seats are changed for increasing spaces in the rear seating arrangement. Door handles and bumpers were also changed. Ultimately it was replaced in the year 1986 with the next model built by the company.
